OPEN WED. AND SAT. THIS WEEK (7/21 & 7/24, 2021)

7/18/2021

Hours for the coming week: Open Wed., 7/21/21 and Saturday 7/24/21. For Wed, 7/21/21, we should have for U-pick: Celeste figs, a few blackberries (more ripening soon), a few LSU Purple and LSU Gold figs (just starting to ripen), heirloom okra, curly kale, dinosaur kale, jalapenos, serranos, bell peppers, lots of eggplant (Japanese and Globe), a few tomatoes and zillions of zinnias. For sale in the market, pre-picked: watermelons (yellow-meat and red-meat), cantaloupes, spaghetti squash, acorn squash (green/white), butternut squash, along with our half-pints of preserves (made from our blackberries, peaches and figs). Eggplant bushes will be cut down soon so they can renew growth for a later fall crop, so get eggplant while you can. If you haven't yet had one of our super-sweet Dove cantaloupes, try one soon, as their season is just about over. Bring shears for cutting zinnias, eggplant, and some okra. The ONLY fruits available for picking are blackberries and figs. PLEASE DO NOT PICK ANY OTHER FRUIT. GRAPES, APPLES AND PERSIMMONS MAY LOOK RIPE TO YOU ,BUT THEY ARE IMMATURE AND NOT RIPE YET. See Home page for pricing, maps, etc.

Picking update: state of the harvest

7/7/2021

Now that fig season has begun, our schedule shifts to only be open about 3 days a week, (Usually Tues, Thur, Sat, unless rain interferes) so more produce has time to ripen for the open days. This week hours: Tues 7/6/21, Thur. 7/8/21, and Sat. 7/10/21, 7:30am-1:00pm. Tomatoes will only last on the vine for another week or so. Celeste fig harvest began last week, so more will ripen every day for a few weeks. A very few LSU Gold figs were picked Tuesday, so they aren't far behind. Delicious thornless Freedom blackberries ripe for the earliest pickers. (READ: get here early if you want blackberries). Okra is branching out, so more to pick now. Slender Japanese type eggplant, and classic oval shape eggplant are going craz-y ---plants are soooo loaded, they need pickers desperately. Kids enjoy pulling the carrots, and peppers are loving the hot summertime. Curly kale and dinosaur kale are easy to pick now that they are taller. We're open even if it's raining, but no picking during lightning. Sorry, no picnic area. Last year, our season ended 7/23/2020, and we are not sure when the 2021 season will end....All depends entirely on weather and customer participation. So don't wait too long or you miss out 'til next year!
