                                                                          our story

This is a picture of the farm in Waller, texas,  as it looked in 2015, before it began its transformation from a hay pasture to a berry farm and orchard. All of the farm improvements you enjoy here have occurred in the last few years, and it is still very much a work in progress.

From 1986-2009, we owned and operated Neal's Restaurant in Spring, Texas. (It's still there, owned by our former Kitchen Manager, Hector. Stop in for a great meal still made with our old recipes!) The blackberry pies we made there inspired us to grow our own blackberries, and pretty soon we discovered we enjoyed farming more than cooking for the masses.

In 2009, we sold the restaurant, moved further down the food chain, and opened Neal's Berry Farm on our homestead near the Woodlands. We quickly became popular as a local pick-your-own blackberry farm and farmer's market offering homegrown vegetables, fruits, herbs, plants, firewood, free-range chickens and eggs, etc. By year 2014, traffic from the new Grand Parkway and the inevitable road construction it spawned just killed safe access to our location, so we loaded up the farm and moved west to the little town of Waller and started over. With this larger farm and different soil type, we are able to grow a greater variety of crops. In January, 2020, in addition to our existing peach, nectarine and fig trees, we planted bronze and black muscadine grapes. Our 7 varieties of thornless blackberries on 3 miles of fences are now in their prime!

We are grateful for all of our customers who visited our farm in Spring, and now pick at our new location. we couldn't continue to expand our operation without all the new friends of the farm who have recently discovered us. Thank you all who are with us on this journey to enjoy fresh food at its finest!
